There has been some discussion in my blog’s comments about the statistics concerning male and female narcissists.
“The lifetime prevalence rate of NPD is approximately 0.5-1 percent; however, the estimated prevalence in clinical settings is approximately 2-16 percent. Almost 75 percent of individuals diagnosed with NPD are male (APA, DSM IV-TR 2000).”
Thanks to Alwaysjan for finding the quote in the DSM.
This comment was one of many, in regards to the fact that statistics support that more N’s are men than women.

Thank you for your response. I’m not sure how much credence can be attached to figures that estimate prevalence in clinical settings (where one would presume the most accurate figures are available) at as wide a range as 2 – 16%, but nevertheless you have produced the figures so I am humbled and apologise for questioning them.
I see my comments have disappeared, you must excuse me but I am totally new to the world of “blogging” and have only just had this explained to me by a friend. I was under the impression it was a method for comparing opinions however it has now been explained to me that these days, it is usually a lucrative enterprise.
Narcissistic abuse is certainly a hot topic at the moment, as Mr Vaknin has illustrated, so I will not rock your boat any more by disagreeing with any of your posts and whilst I am not particularly enamoured about the subject of earning from other’s misery and insecurities good luck with your enterprise.
Please pass my thanks on to jan

If this indeed is a lucrative enterprise…then, where are my checks?

I also want to be the first to tell you that in the DSM – V, which is scheduled for release in 2013, there’s plans to remove NPD as a separate personality disorder. The manual, which hasn’t been revised in ten years, is taking comments through April from those who’ve have knowledge/or have had contact with people with personality disorders. I’ll send you the link.
Jan: Yes! Please do. I will share it here with my readers. I think it is important that people share about the damage Narcissists have done to others.

I found it.

They are requesting comments.
I don’t know if it will have any effect but I plan to tell them all about the N I had to deal with.
In the past 2 days I have learned that the revisions are a highly contentious issue. Some say the change is needed; some say it will really muck things up.
I understand that they are talking about changing Schizophrenia.
